Toy Sheet Review

Front Porch Classics games are so well crafted and beautiful that you may want to leave them out all year as a compliment to your decorations.  Word Spot is no exception.

Game Summary:  Word Spot is a classic word search game made beautiful by the craftsmen of Front Porch Classics.  Each player takes a turn until one player uses up all of her markers.

Game Play:   Word Spot is easy to learn and provides the mental stimulation that word game lovers appreciate.  If you like word search puzzles, you will love this game.

Strategy:  Word Spot will challenge your vocabulary skills and word recognition skills, not to mention your eyesight.  After playing Word Spot, you will probably find that you are able to find increasingly larger words in less time.

Word Spot is a beautiful wooden game which comes in the "book shelf edition" so you can even store it on a shelf in your living room, library, office, or den.  This game looks beautiful set up as well.  I would definitely recommend this game as a classic.  Bring it out when you have children around or when sophisticated guests visit.  Everyone will enjoy Word Spot.

From the Publisher:

Letterpress craftsmen of centuries past used to hide words within a block of text as a challenge to their peers. They called this past time vedere parola.

To celebrate this rich tradition Front Porch Classics has created Word Spot, a timeless game where players try to find hidden words among an arranged board of lettered tiles. The first player to use up all their markers finding words is the winner! Easy to learn, yet challenging and different every time.

For two players, ages eight and up.

Word spot wins Dr. Toy award :

Seattle WA (December 2, 2006) – Front Porch Classics, maker of award-winning family, classic and Coffee Table games has added another accolade to their already impressive award resume. This December it is nothing less than the highly regarded Dr. Toy 10 Best Game for 2006 award for their new game, Word Spot.

“We are extremely honored to be chosen,” said Front Porch Classics Creative Envoy Steve Hart. “The Dr. Toy Award is highly regarded in the industry and represents what is cutting edge in games, toys and child development.”

Stevanne Auerbach, “Dr. Toy”, has been for many years, one of the leading experts on play, toys and children’s products. An established speaker, consultant and author of 15 books and dozens of articles about play and toys, Dr. Auerbach has observed over 50,000 children at play during her tenure as director of the Toy Museum in San Francisco and in her studies of child care centers across the county. Her award criteria standards are considered some of the best in the industry.

“I take a number of things into consideration when evaluating a product,” said Dr. Auerbach, “Including quality in the design and production of the product, plus applicability to early childhood population, appropriateness of product for education, cultural, and social sensitivity, play value or the diverse uses of the product, price, and just plain fun.”

In addition to her 100 Best Children’s Product List and 10 Best Lists, Dr. Auerbach yearly publishes a Holiday Gift Guide and Vacation Guide. (http://drtoy.com/main/index.html#NEWS)

The Dr. Toy 10 Best Game Award for Front Porch Classics Word Spot game comes on the heals of a Creative Child Magazine Game of the Year award.

“These awards confirm what we learned during our play tests, and that is Word Spot and word puzzles are fun and engaging,” said Front Porch Classics Creative Envoy Steve Hart. “Last year the numbers game Sudoko was the big craze. We see this year as being the year of the word. People yearn for games that are fun, easy to learn and play in under an hour, which is exactly what Word Spot delivers.”
